BASS General Session -- Don Moen & Francis Chan

BASS Church Workers Convention

I was at the BASS Convention in Castro Valley last weekend. Don't let the name fool you, "Bay Area Sunday School" is not only for Sunday School teachers and "church workers" are not only those people who work as church staff. Even those who could only attend half a day have found encouragement and enrichment with openness of hearts.

BASS is a great place to worship, learn and grow with other believers! The theme for the 2007 convention is "Growing in Ministry" which support all of us as we strive for spiritual, professional, personal and church growth. The speakers for general sessions are Dr. John Townsend (Thursday), Pastor Paul Sheppard (Friday) and Pastor Francis Chan (Saturday). My husband and I were thrilled to hear Pastor Chan who is probably an Nth generation ABC (American Born Chinese). The worship music led by Don Moen was great. I will tell you more in the future.

Thanks to my friend Millicent who introduced me to BASS, I have been attending since 1992 or so. Not only have I found great ministry tips, ideas and resources, I have met many brothers and sisters who shared my ministry passion and vision even as I was being molded by God through these years. On Friday and Saturday, I gave four workshops in Cantonese and Mandarin relating to EQ, Parenting, and Communication. I was pleasantly surprised to meet the reporting editor of Gospel Herald again. She has written three news reports before and after BASS in Chinese.

Earthquake, Tornado and Stock Market

Just felt an earthquake ... My husband checked the USGS website and found that there was an 4.2 earthquake in Lafayette at 8:40 p.m. tonight.

In the evening news, we heard about the tornado in Alabama today. It hit a high school and several students were dead. Many were still trapped. They were hiding in the auditorium, thinking it would be safe there. But the tornado tore Enterprise High School into half.

Tuesday and today, the stock market had big hit.

Where can we find real security? Who can help?

"I lift up my eyes to the hills— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber." (Psalm 121:1-3)
